There is that age old question of whether to buy organic… or not! And on this matter, I have come to believe that most people equate organic produce with “health food types ( 🙂 ) “, higher prices…and not much else! This topic always leads to a lively discussion that seems to start and end with; Is it worth it to buy organic produce?
It’s a personal choice, but let me suggest that you consider using The Dirty Dozen and The Clean 15 Lists to help you decide… do you know about these lists?
The Dirty Dozen and The Clean 15 are lists of fruits and vegetables published annually by The Environmental Working Group (EWG) that can help you decide what you should consider buying organic based on the amount of pesticides they contain. That leads to another BIG question… Have you ever considered what pesticide exposure could mean for you? Even if you have, you may want to take a look at this short clip of Dr. Weil discussing pesticides, the EWG list and the value of buying organic.
So… now are you thinking about new food choices that minimize your pesticide exposure? OK, consider buying organic versions of EWG’s list of The Dirty Dozen fruits and veggies (the ones that contain the most pesticides) and eat more from the Clean 15 List when you buy conventionally grown produce. It just takes a minute to think about how you want to spend your food dollars… in a healthy and cost effective way!
BTW… how is the July Kaizen challenge going so far? Are you meeting this month’s goal of eating at least one serving of fruit each day? Have you tried a new fruit yet? Did you buy organic…?
You know I want to hear from you…so don’t forget to leave a comment or send an email.
